I have been working in the field of conflict management and mediation for twenty years. I have carried out mediation in a great variety of fields (family, marital, penal, business, etc.). I have held diverse training courses in mediation in France and Italy, both at universities and in private courses. I believe I can say that I have been one of the pioneers in the introduction of penal mediation in Italy. I have contributed to the diffusion of this alternative form of conflict settlement since 1988, working together with the Ministry of Justice, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. Today I am the supervisor and scientific referee for the Mediation Centre of the Trentino-Alto Adige Region.

What is mediation?

Mediation is not just the mediation of conflicts. Meetings and communication between human beings is not always easy. Being unable to communicate does not always mean not knowing how to communicate. At times, we are too emotionally involved in a relational situation and the intervention of a third party can help. The mediator helps the participants meet one another and communicate, helping them to reach a better understanding of themselves and the others. In the case of a conflict, he accompanies the participants until they reach a conclusive agreement. In a way, the mediator facilitates meetings and communication. In conflict mediation, he works to achieve peace. Mediation can be applied in all fields of social life (family, business, school, media, neighbours, multicultural societies, transport, justice, commerce, etc.). From my perspective of non directive intervention, I define mediation as relating two or more desires.
